Responsibilities and Oversight
One Economy Corporation currently leads a high-tech, high-touch free tax preparation project, a national initiative that leverages technology to bring self-sufficiency to low- and moderate-income taxpayers. One of our projects, the Beehive Tax Tool (www.thebeehive.org/freetaxes) provides premier online tax services for both federal and state income tax preparation, at no cost, to households meeting income criteria. The Free Tax Preparation Project is administered via One Economy Vans, equipped with wireless computer labs, which travel to various communities nationally and can accommodate up to 40 tax filings daily.

We seek qualified candidates to train partners and individuals on income tax preparation with the Beehive Tax Tool. These individuals will be temporarily contracted to drive One Economy vans that serve as mobile computer labs. The vans will be driven throughout the country to provide low-income clients with access to the Internet to file their taxes for free this upcoming tax season. Drivers must be willing to work long hours during the one-week training January 18 through January 22, 2010; and 10 weeks of project work from January 25 to April 10, 2010. The drivers will act as coordinators for One Economy with community-based organizations and tax preparation partners to best manage the mobile lab in each community.

The following are key responsibilities:

Drive a One Economy Van (i.e. Tax Training Lab) to various communities across the country.
Set up mobile lab resources (i.e. laptop computers, wireless networking, office supplies) once on location.
Conduct training with volunteers from a variety of organizations including local government, nonprofit, and social service agencies, about personal finance and online tax tools provided through One Economy websites.
Provide coaching and technical assistance to users of the Tax Lab.
Coordinate volunteer and paid staff activities (i.e. set up and site administration of the program).
Promote the tax campaign with the local media at each location.
Represent One Economy’s community tax preparation program in the most positive and productive manner.
Collect stories of local residents and the personal finance issues that matter the most to them.

Qualifications

Strong organizational skills and self-starter, who is a reliable and independent worker.
Technical skills (i.e. ability to set up wireless computer network or computer lab) required.
Intermediate knowledge in computers.
Proof of Tax Year 2007, 2008 or 2009 Link and Learn Intermediate Certification required. (http://www.irs.gov/app/vita/index.jsp). Experience as VITA Volunteer or paid tax preparer preferred
Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
High school diploma or GED required.
Ability to travel for 8 consecutive weeks.
Must pass a clean background check and drug test.
Physical requirements include ability frequently to stand; walk; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl; and talk; or hear. The job requires that the employee frequently lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception.
Bilingual reading and speaking skills preferred (Spanish).
